The MI program is a concrete set of proposals that dentists and patients can work with from the time of the first contact and dental examination, through routine prevention and prophylaxis procedures, to minimally invasive treatment. This in turn is followed by regular maintenance and check ups, as well as home care preventive measures carried out by the patient.
|
As such the MI Program can be divided into 3 distinct areas:
- Identify;
History taking, diagnosis and early detection of caries lesions,followed by an estimation of a patient's individual risk.
- Prevention;
A means of providing professional advice and preventive care by the dentist, as well as recommendations for home care and tips on how to motivate patients to improved preventive practices and oral hygiene.
- Control;
Should surgical treatment and control of the disease be required,this treatment includes minimally invasive techniques and preventive control measures.
